Swimming is all about… YOU!

When you swim you swim for yourself. When you dive into that freezing cold water every morning at 5.00, you are not doing it for anyone else. You are doing it for You!! You don’t swim so you can have attention. No one cares. Swimming isn’t a sport about fame or attention. You do it for you. This is the one sport that you can steal the limelight. Be the centre of attention without being an attention seeker. You do it because you love pain, suffering, torture.. no mater what you say. You love pushing yourself and you know that in the end all the pain and torture your coach put you through will be worth it. You know how great it will feel when you get that goal time, and that’s what keeps you going. Swimming is all about YOU. Remember that when you wonder why you swim."
You have the right to choose the life you want to live. You have the right to make the choices you will be happy with. All you need is will.
Choose getting up before the sun rises. Choose leaving the pool before the sun sets. Choose the cold rush you get as you jump in the pool. Choose the calmness you find when you are in the water. Choose burning lungs and tired muscles in the middle of a long set. Choose that ultimate feeling after a perfect race. Choose the coaches that know you better than your own parents. Choose dedication. Choose passion.
Every sport has something beautiful. Every sport makes you stronger and healthier. Though there is something magical about swimming. It's the feeling you get at the end of a hard practice when you've pushed yourself to the limit; the way the water feels when you get back in after a few months off. It's a part of your identity, something you love, and something you hate. A bond that's okay because every time you are up on the blocks it isn't just you. lt's all the friends and coaches over the years, all the practices, all the laughter, all the "off" races, all the lifetime bests, and all the road trips. As individual as it may seem, swimming is really a team sport, and even still, its more than just a sport. It's a way of life."
